Just over a year ago, I was commissions to write a major new TV series. I spent much of last year putting the idea together and writing the first two episodes before the rails came off. The past me would have been disappointed and frustrated at the slow and eventual standstill of the project but, I’m delighted to say, today’s me is somewhat wiser.
Coincidently, only a few weeks ago, one of my best friends asked me whether she could cover a song I’d written over 30 years ago. Will either of these projects come to anything? I have no idea. But what the latter did serve to remind me is that nothing we do in life is ever wasted.
We often feel that all the hard work we put into anything is a waste of time if it doesn’t run its course and come (in our minds at least) to its full conclusion. But, in truth, it is my strong belief that nothing is ever wasted. The experience we get by doing anything; the meeting of new people; the trust we gain from stretching ourselves; these are a huge import to our lives and are the ‘conclusion’ the Gods want us to have in themselves.
Separating ourselves from our preconceived outcomes is the key to not getting down when things don’t go as we planned. Remember to always do anything with the belief it will be our greatest work, whilst allowing the Gods to decide when and how that work will manifest.
In my experience, ‘letting go and letting the Gods’ makes our lives far easier and more fulfilling. Experience and learning are the fruits of life and a conclusion in themselves. Try to be transient with your perceived outcomes. The reason you went down a path will all become clear one day.
