Howard Moody’s love affair with producing his beautiful carvings began after being given a lathe by his father in his teens. His skills have grown immensely since then and the pieces he produces are as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as they are beautiful to the touch.
He went on to become the ‘Woodworker in Residence’ at the Lost Gardens of Heligan Garden and now produces stunning pieces, allowing the wood to drive his creativity.
“I’m influenced by many different things including seed pods and leaves. I also like the process of how certain organic items decay. I rarely have a plan of how the piece of work will look when finished. It all evolves as I progress with the piece.”
All the materials Howard uses come from sustainable sources such as the woodland worked by the local branch of the National Trust and he’s always aware of where the wood originates.https://theharbourgallery.co.uk/product/howard-moody-carved-sycamore-vase-3/
