Beach Life 1
This is a picture of my brother, the best uncle any child could dream
of, with my daughter on Portscatho Beach, about to take a dip on an
inclement day. They ran round and round in circles on the sand until
they were warm enough to take the plunge. The rest of the family sat
comfortably drinking coffee and observing the madness. This scene seemed
utterly timeless, generations of families having shared the joys of
Portscatho, so making this style of print felt appropriate. Cyanotypes
are created using sunlight, one of the earliest forms of photographic
imaging and seem to lend themselves to memories of beach scenes.
Needless to say, the swimmers weren’t in for long!
