I’ve noticed one thing about myself, and others, who have too much time on their hands. The smallest of things that in the past wouldn’t have mattered so much, seem to hold much more import.
A friend was telling me that a woman took her to court over suspecting her dog was doing its business outside the woman’s house… to court! She even took a sample as was intending to get a DNA test on the dodos!
Of course, this is somewhat extreme, but the principle is the same. When we have fewer things in life to amuse ourselves with, we can become obsessed with the slightest of irritants.
At times like these, I tend to bring myself down. Yes, it’s annoying that others don’t reach my expectations – and I’m probably just as guilty of not reaching theirs – but becoming overly obsessive about it can be detrimental to only one person… myself.
We are the ones holding the grudge, so we are the only ones, in truth, to whom it affects the most. It may, or may not affect the other party once we’ve shared our gripe with them, but certainly living with an indisposition is an unhealthy pastime and one which would be better to offload.
The question we have to ask ourselves is: is it truly that important? If the issue is not resolved, will our life be impeded insurmountably? If not, let it go. Come to terms with the grievance and move on.
I always feel if I become like this, I spend a few hours helping another. This puts things into perspective and it feels much better afterwards. Turn a hindrance into a help and shower yourself in the downpour of a new mindset. You know you’re worth it!
