Unusual

I found myself in a quandary recently. I had to drop my wife off at the airport and pick my stepfather up, but there was an annoying 3 hour wait. Too long to wait around the airport and not really enough time to do the 45 minute drive back home and have an hour there before returning.

I decided to try something unusual: to drive to a beach near the airport, have a swim and take Trudy for a walk and then go to a cafe for breakfast.

It was quite early, so the beach was empty, which was magical. The swim was dreamy and Trudy and I enjoyed watching the first beach-yoga instagrammers arrive for ‘that’ sunrise photo. Bless ‘em.

Thereafter, we popped into a nearby village cafe for breakfast, had another walk along the beachfront and then sauntered back to the airport in time for the incoming flight.

Why do I tell you all this? It’s really to remind myself, and you, that more often than not, doing the unusual pays dividends. It’s so easy to get locked into doing what we normally would. Nearly always when we go off-piste, however, the adventure pays off. And even if it’s not perfect, we’ve experienced something different that will give us pause for thought in our lives.

Whether working, or at leisure, remember to keep life interesting and change your modus operandi. I really can’t overstate the benefits. And who knows, maybe you’ll find a new regular location or experience to enhance your life! There’s gold in them there hills, I tell ya!
