Reassessing

In the last week, I’ve had my mind changed about three things that I had strong views on. And I’m delighted by the new information, despite them clashing with my previous limited beliefs on the subjects.

Especially as we get older, it’s easy to snuggle down into our opinions of things.  In many cases, they’re opinions we’ve carefully nurtured and that have grown with us over the years. Giving these up for a new mindset is hard as it can even call into question a part of who we intrinsically believe we are. But, believe me, it’s well worth the challenge.
For many, the power of social media has fed our beliefs, so it’s become even harder to seek out the truth and overcome algorithms that want to exploit our mindsets. But the truth is out there if we’re open enough to search for it.
If you like, you can join me is asking one question to ourselves next time we’re absolutely sure of our beliefs on a subject: how would our adversary see it?
By truly considering or listening to someone whose opinions we would normally disregard, we open ourselves to discovering new horizons. And who knows, it may even reassure us that what we believe on any subject is true.

Really taking others thoughts into mind allows us at least to discover the rationale behind their beliefs, and that alone can give us a new perspective on our own opinions. Good luck either way!
